FAQ's regarding bail bonding:

What is bail?

Bail is an aspect of our legal system that makes it possible for someone accused of a crime and arrested and put in jail to put up financial compensation for their release. The amount of bail will be determined by the courts.

What is a bail bond, and how does it work?

Think of a bail bond as insurance. It is offered by a company or agency that agrees with the court that the bail will be paid if the defendant fails to appear. Bail bonds are usually 10% of the full bond amount, and are not refundable. For example, if a bond is set for $20,000, then a bail bonds company will charge $2,000.

Is there a difference between bond amount and bond premium?

Yes. Bond amounts are determined by the court system, and is the full amount of bail required to allow the release of the defendant. A bond agency will charge the bond premium, which is usually 10% of the total bail amount.

What is the premium?

In Alabama, premiums are usually 10% of the total amount of bail. All premiums are non-refundable, and ensure the client's release from custody.
